It's that time of year again — I'm breaking out the skull swimsuit! Looks like our readers are, too. Sort of.

Nina from Kentucky writes:

It's summer time, and hence, pool time. I love to swim, but I don't know if pools are all that green. Could you please tell me?

Well, Nina, our town's pool was definitely green — but not in a good-for-the-earth way. More like swampy-green. Swimming pools are not all that green when you think of it — digging a huge hole that messes with whatever's growing there, filling it with cement, lining it with plastic, dumping lots of water and chemicals in it .... It seems greener to find a local lake or pond or ocean to swim in. With your parents, of course!

There's also the eco-friendly pool option, which isn't very popular here in the US, but some greenies in Europe are doing it. You use plants to clean the pool instead of chemicals. Less chemicals equals more green. In a good way!

What do you think about green pools? Where will you swim this summer? Tell us!
